WrestleMania 28 predictions

This is it folks!

WrestleMania 28 is just a few short hours away and I thought I’d take the opportunity to offer my predictions and thoughts on the scheduled matches and also what to expect from The Showcase of the Immortals!

(From WWE.com)

WWE Tag Team Championship Triple Threat Match- Epico & Primo (C) vs Justin Gabriel & Tyson Kidd vs The Usos

This dark match is being streamed on WWE.com and WWE’s YouTube page 30 minutes before WrestleMania starts at 11.30pm UK time.  The tag division hasn’t seen much attention recently, but with Gabriel and Kidd recently forming on Superstars, maybe we’ll see their new team get off to the best possible start; winning the Tag Titles at WrestleMania. All three teams are very talented, though… So expect a decent dark match either way.

Kelly Kelly & Maria Menounos vs Divas Champion Beth Phoenix & Eve

Personally, I think it’s a bit of a shame to have such talent like Beth Phoenix not being able to shine in a one-on-one title match, but this is WrestleMania, and WWE love to have a celebrity involved. I’m expecting a pretty short match from these four, one in which I hope to see the talented Phoenix and Eve pick up the win… But with WWE and celebrities, you never know…

Randy Orton vs Kane

Orton is only in this match because Del Rio isn’t quite ready to come back yet. However, Kane is as reliable as ever and these two should put on a good show. It can only go one way though, with The Viper surely going to pick up the win.

Team Teddy (Booker T, The Great Khali, R-Truth, Santino, Kofi Kingston & Zack Ryder) vs Team Johnny (Jack Swagger, Drew McIntyre, David Otunga, Mark Henry, Dolph Ziggler & The Miz)

Let’s face it. This match has A LOT of talent in it. I expect this match to be A LOT of fun. The only guy that is to bring this match down, IMO, is Khali. Khali, cannot wrestle. Every single WWE fan has known this for years. However, the rest of the talent in the ring, from the comedy stylings of Santino and R-Truth, to the all out brilliance of Ziggler and Swagger, there will certainly be a lot to see when this match comes around. A shout-out has to go to Zack Ryder too. Just a year ago he wasn’t even featured on WWE programming, and thanks to a Flip camera and a certain YouTube show, Zack is now a certified fan favourite and I couldn’t be happier to see him go out on the Grandest Stage Of Them All and perform. Woo Woo Woo, You Know It. Can’t decide on a winner for this one.

Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes vs Big Show

Cody Rhodes is a constant WrestleMania calibre wrestler. He is a show stealer every night. At first I was dead set on a Cody win, and I still see this as the most likely outcome. However, I recently saw an article online that noted that is Show were to win, he’d join a small elite group of wrestlers to hold every active WWE title. Part of me says WWE may let Show win to put him in this group for his long service to the business, but the rest of me hopes that WWE has more sense and let’s Cody continue to build momentum by going over one of the biggest stars in the WWE, if you’ll excuse the terrible pun. Almost as bad as Big Show’s WrestleMania losing streak.

World Heavyeight Champion Daniel Bryan vs Sheamus

Those of you that follow me on Twitter (link at the bottom of this page) know I’m a huge D-Bryan fan, and have been for years. I’m not a huge fan of Sheamus’ brawling style either, so I do hope Bryan wins. However, the way this match has been built up leads to a Sheamus win, finally toppling the cowardly champion. Whoever wins, I’m glad to see these two guys get to have a match on the actual card, after they were unceremoniously dumped to the dark match minutes before last year’s WrestleMania 27.

WWE Champion CM Punk vs Chris Jericho

Both of these guys are pure gold, both on the mic and in the ring. Most WWE fans enjoy watching the classic matches both are capable of putting on and I hope tonight is no different. I expect a great wrestling match between these two with CM Punk coming out on top. If Jericho is only back part-time, it makes sense to put  Punk over and solidify him even more as a main event guy within the WWE, something which is long overdue.

The Undertaker vs Triple H (Hell in a Cell Match with special referee Shawn Michaels)

Wow. Can you say match of the year candidate? The Undertaker and Triple H had an epic match at last year’s WrestleMania, and the two that preceded that, HBK and Taker went at it in two sheer classic matches. Having all three guys in the same match, and in a Hell in a Cell match at that, things can only go well. I expect Undertaker to win to go 20-0 at WrestleMania. Here’s the twist. What IF. What IF Shawn Michaels superkicks his best friend Triple H and comes out of retirement to face The Game at WrestleMania 29 in New York/New Jersey? Maybe I’m just dreaming the wildest dreams of any lifelong WWE fan, but seeing that match as the last match of both HBK and HHH would certainly get me hooked. It’s just an idea.

John Cena vs The Rock

After a year, it’s finally here. John Cena vs The Rock, the match that was set on the RAW after WrestleMania 27, is finally here after months of back and forth verbal altercations. This match has everyone hooked. Personally, I’m torn. While I love The Rock and his goofy promos and his comical genius, I also love what Cena stands for and being in the ring each and every night busting his ass for the fans. The Rock showed what he’s capable of in the ring at last year’s Survivor Series, and I hope to see him in even better form for this match. I’m also hoping for a Chicago and Money In The Bank-like reaction for Cena. While it may never be replicated again for years, that outpouring of hatred towards him only set to make the atmosphere and the match that much more special. Will we see a hometown crowd for The Rock like we did for CM Punk back in July 2011? I doubt it. But it sure would be epic.

I’ll have a blog post up tomorrow with my thoughts on the matches, and of course everything else that comes with WrestleMania such as the special entrances, attire and appearances. In the meantime, follow my tweets all night on Twitter (@DeadmanDRB) and have an awesome WrestleMania!
