WWE Hall of Famer Mae Young has died, aged 90.
Mae Young (real name Johnnie Mae Young) began wrestling in 1939 and went on to compete for eight decades. She also celebrated her 90th birthday in March 2013, live on Monday Night RAW.
Vince McMahon, Chairman and CEO of WWE (via WWE.com) said: “There will never be another Mae Young. Her longevity in sports entertainment may never be matched, and I will forever be grateful for all of her contributions to the industry. On behalf of WWE, I extend our sincerest condolences to her family and friends.”
Young had been in poor health recently and was in hospital for a long time, with many WWE superstars taking to Twitter to wish her well.
